About
Dr. De La Torre’s research focuses on developing scalable, community-responsive digital behavioral health interventions that promote physical activity and chronic disease prevention, particularly among underserved Hispanic/Latino communities. Dr. De La Torre is especially interested in mobile health, wearable technologies, and adaptive interventions that are culturally grounded, accessible, and informed by community voice. Methodologically, Dr. De La Torre’s work also examines how intensive longitudinal data, system identification, and dynamic modeling approaches can be used to better understand behavior change mechanisms and personalize digital health interventions. When asked why he wanted to be involved with the Roybal Center: "I am excited to be involved with the Roybal Center because it closely aligns with my long-term goal of developing theory-driven, mechanism-focused digital interventions that support sustained physical activity in real-world settings. The Roybal Center’s emphasis on experimental medicine and behavioral intervention development is a strong fit for my work on affective and identity-based pathways, as well as my broader commitment to creating scalable, emotionally resonant, and community-centered digital health tools for underserved populations."
